History
Driving a paint truck might not be your idea of the best route to success but founder Joseph L. Ricciardi proved this to be true to his business triumph to the world of paint.
It all started in 1927 with Joe’s first job driving a truck for S. Grunt in Newark. During this time Joe learned so much about paint and kindred products. After a year, he became a clerk at the store of A. Singer, just two years later he studied enough to become the manager for Eli Perlman, of Perlman Paints. During this time of fear in the country and the Bonus March occurring Perlman Paint’s closed. June 5, 1933 the Perlman establishment was reopened as Joe’s Paint Store. As the nation climbed back to prosperity so did Joe Ricciardi. Nothing stopped Joe, he made call after call making personal contacts with painters, contractors, builders, and other customers. Every contact Joe made built the business that it is today. Less than ten years after risking $3,500 to take over a risky business during the depth of the depression, Joe bought the building and proudly displayed the sign JOSEPH RICCIARDI PAINTS. Whether Joe received a huge complex order for a governmental agency or a can of trim paint for a do-it-yourselfer, Joe treated every order with full attention to detail.
